Imphal, Sep 23 A man was killed on Wednesday when armed men launched a gun attack at a village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district, officials said.
The incident took place at Lasan village in the early hours, during which power line worker Paongam Chongloi was killed.
Chongloi was repairing a power line when he came under attack, officials said, quoting local villagers.
His body was brought to Kangpokpi district hospital.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Tribal Unity said Chongloi’s mortal remains would not be claimed until the perpetrators were brought to justice.
The Kuki Civic Action Committee (KCAC) condemned the killing and urged the Centre and the state government to ensure an impartial investigation and take steps to prevent further violence against civilians.
In a statement, the committee expressed concern over the security situation in Kuki settlements along the IT Road in Tamenglong district, saying civilians continued to face armed violence while access to essential services and humanitarian assistance remained restricted.
It also alleged that armed Naga groups were behind the attack and the killing.
In another incident, armed men allegedly set several houses on fire in two adjacent villages in Kangpokpi district.
Several kutcha houses were attacked and set ablaze at Makui Khuman and Makui Thanamba villages, officials said.
The two villages are located nearly 3 km apart.
