New Delhi, Sep 23 Amid an ongoing protest by lawyers, the Delhi government has put on hold implementation of notification by the transport department making changes on new challan system in the national capital.
Transport Minister Pankaj Singh on Wednesday said the transport department has been asked to examine the matter raised by advocates regarding the changes made to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989.
Lawyers in district courts on Monday held a strike to protest the amendments made to the motor vehicle rules.
The main point of contention for advocates is that under the amended rules a person can approach a court only after depositing 50 per cent of the challan amount.
The Coordination Committee of the All District Courts Bar Associations of Delhi has issued a circular stating that member advocates will organise a peaceful march to the Lieutenant Governor’s House on Thursday to protest against recent amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.
“The Delhi government has taken seriously the concerns raised by advocates over implementation of new challan system in Delhi. The representation is being sent to transport department for examination and will also be brought to notice of Delhi LG TS Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta,” Singh said.
Till then transport department is being directed to put on hold the implementation of the notification dated September 14, 2026.
