Kota (Raj) Sep 23 Congress’s Pipalda MLA Chetan Patel Kolana and 20 others have been booked for allegedly blocking road and obstructing government officials from performing duty at a vote counting centre in Kota district, police said on Wednesday.
Sultanpur SHO Daulat Sahu said Kolana and the others were booked on Tuesday night and added that since the matter involves an MLA, the case has been transferred to CID-CB for further investigation.
The incident over which they have been booked occurred on Monday when Kolana was allegedly denied entry to the vote-counting venue. Although he initially left, Congress councillors and party office-bearers remained and protested when a vehicle belonging to a BJP councillor was permitted inside. They allegedly attempted to stop the car. When MLA Kolana returned to the scene, a heated altercation ensued.
SHO Sahu said Kolana and his supporters staged a road blockade and mistreated police personnel and attempted to prevent councillors from casting their votes.
The MLA and others have been booked under sections 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way), 189 (unlawful assembly), 329 (criminal trespass), and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
