Kannauj (UP), Sep 25 A 45-year-old man, who was recently released from jail after serving a seven-year sentence in an attempt to murder case, was found dead under a tree here with a bullet wound to his head, police said on Friday.
The body of Rajkishore Dubey was found around midnight in Brahman Nagla village under the Chhibramau Kotwali police station area. Two cartridges of .315 bore were recovered from the spot.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinod Kumar, Chhibramau Circle Officer Mayank Mishra and Kotwali Station House Officer Kapil Dubey reached the spot after being informed about the incident. A forensic team was also called in and it collected fingerprints and other evidence.
According to the SP, Dubey, a resident of Merapur village under the Bhogaon police station area of neighbouring Mainpuri district, had been staying at his sister’s house in Brahman Nagla.
Family members told police that Dubey was sentenced to seven years in prison in a case registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. He had completed his sentence and was released from jail around one and a half months ago.
According to police, Dubey was unmarried and had shot a man under the influence of alcohol around eight years ago.
Family members said they heard a loud sound late Thursday night and later found Dubey lying in a pool of blood.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the death were being investigated to determine whether it was a case of murder or suicide.
“The cause of death will be clear only after the post-mortem examination,” SP Kumar said.
