Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Sep 25 More than 1.65 lakh household Ganesh idols will be immersed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city on Friday on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, with authorities deploying over 2,500 personnel for crowd and traffic management, said officials.
The idols of 941 Ganesh mandals, set up by community groups, will also be taken for immersion, they said.
According to an official, idols from the Cantonment area are scheduled to be immersed on Saturday.
The main immersion procession in the city will begin from the Sansthan Ganapati temple in the Rajabazar area, the official said.
The municipal corporation has designated 22 immersion sites for smaller idols, according to an official release. Idols more than six feet tall will be immersed in Harsul Lake and the Godavari river at Kaygaon Toka, it said.
To ensure the smooth immersion of 1.65 lakh household idols, over 2,500 personnel, including one company of the State Reserve Police Force, the Riot Control Police and 12 other task forces, have been deployed, it said.
The police have installed 28 noise-level meters across the city. Eight drones and anti-drone guns have also been deployed along the procession route, which is being monitored through CCTVs from the Command and Control Centre, the release said.
The 12-day Ganpati festival culminates on Anant Chaturdashi, when devotees bid farewell to the deity by immersing idols in natural water bodies or artificial ponds. The day witnesses colourful and vibrant processions across Maharashtra.
