Guwahati, Sep 25 The Assam Cancer Care Foundation, with a network of 12 specialised facilities in the state, has delivered nearly 15 lakh patient services such as consultations, diagnostics, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery in around four years, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
He chaired the foundation’s board and annual general meeting on Thursday night and reviewed progress on key initiatives to strengthen cancer care and allied healthcare services in the state.
“The figure that struck me most was this: in just about four years since inception, our hospitals have delivered nearly 15 lakh patient services, from consultations and diagnostics to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery,” Sarma said in a social media post.
“Behind this number are our people who received quality cancer care close to home, without having to leave Assam, as was often the case only a few years ago,” he said.
The chief minister said the state government remains committed to expanding this network by adding five more cancer hospitals.
He directed officials to expedite the construction of new cancer care hospitals in Dhubri, Nalbari, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Goalpara.
Assam Cancer Care Foundation is a joint initiative of the Government of Assam and the Tata Trusts aimed at setting up the cancer care network to provide accessible and affordable cancer care.
