Bhubaneswar, Sep 24 Police have arrested three persons for allegedly manufacturing and selling fake SIM cards in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, officials said on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as Suraj Bag (24), Malati Oram alias Mala (29) and Papu alias Sheikh Parvez (32), police said.
While investigating a case, Sambalpur cyber police busted the alleged racket and arrested the three accused.
The accused allegedly used customers’ identity proofs and other documents to generate multiple SIM cards against a single number, he said.
After handing over one SIM card to the customer, they allegedly retained the additional cards and sold them to others for use in cybercrimes in Jharkhand’s Jamtara region, the officer said.
The money generated through the alleged illegal activity was distributed among those involved, he said.
Police seized four mobile phones, four active SIM cards, 120 sealed unused SIM cards, three bank passbooks, chequebooks, Aadhaar cards, a UPI QR code scanner, four affidavits, a house rental agreement and other materials from the accused.
Investigation is underway to identify other members of the alleged network, ascertain the financial trail and establish its suspected links with Jamtara, police said.
