Gandhinagar, Sep 24 The new labour laws, prepared by integrating years-old complex statutes, will benefit both industrialists and workers, Gujarat Labour and Employment Minister Kunvarjibhai Bavaliya said on Thursday.
He was speaking at an awareness programme on the new labour laws in Gandhinagar. Minister of State Kantilal Amrutia was also present.
The new laws will maintain a balance between the interests of industry and workers and give a new impetus to the development of the entire country, an official release quoted Bavaliya as saying.
“The four new labour laws prepared by integrating the years-old complex laws will prove beneficial for both industrialists and workers,” the minister said.
Mutual trust and cooperation between industries and labourers is the foundation of industrial development in the state, he said.
If industrialists consider workers as their own and care about their safety and health, then the latter will also consider the organisation their own and work with full dedication, he said.
In the new labour laws implemented by the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, special priority has been given to matters like workers’ safety, proper environment at the workplace, clean drinking water, wages and social security, Bavaliya said.
These provisions have been made to ensure workers’ welfare and smooth running of industries, he said.
The new labour codes have been prepared by integrating 29 old laws with the aim of removing criminal provisions in compliance and minor offences and adopting a conciliatory process, Secretary for Labour Lochan Sehra was quoted as saying in the release.
Since Gujarat is an industry-friendly state, it is important that there is mutual coordination between the labour department and the industry, he said.
The official said that all services and processes will be digitalised soon to increase transparency and convenience. It is the priority of the state government to protect the interests of both workers and industry through safety, skilling and mutual cooperation, the official added.
