New Delhi, Sep 24 Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) has stepped up security measures around its campus following the alleged rape of a minor at nearby Aastha Kunj Park, with Delhi Police enhancing patrolling, auditing street lighting and briefing personnel at a police booth near the college.
The college administration, students’ union and senior Delhi Police officials also held an open dialogue with students to address their safety concerns and explain the measures being undertaken in coordination with the college.
A WhatsApp group comprising the LSR administration, students’ union and senior police personnel has also been created to facilitate timely action and enable students to report incidents and concerns, the college said.
Police personnel stationed at the Pink Booth near the college have been briefed to ensure effective patrolling, remove encroachments and take action against unwanted elements in the area.
Work on street lights has also been initiated following a security audit conducted by the police on Wednesday, according to the college.
Speed breakers have also been installed in the back lane of the college, a measure completed around 10 days ago.
Delhi Police has further enhanced patrolling in the vicinity of the college, while a meeting involving Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar, DCP Vineet Kumar and the SHO was held with students.
University Proctor Manoj Kumar Singh and his team also visited the college to extend support from the university.
The measures come after concerns were raised over the safety of students following the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl inside Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir.
The incident, which took place around 2 km from the college, prompted concerns among the LSR student community, particularly over safety during evening hours.
Several students participated in a solidarity march on Wednesday, demanding better security infrastructure and raising concerns that, they said, had persisted even before the incident.
Amid the concerns, the college had cancelled classes on Tuesday and shifted them online on Wednesday. Regular offline classes resumed on Thursday.
