Jaipur, Sep 24 Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Thursday termed BJP’s performance in the recent urban local body elections as “historic” and claimed that the Congress’s support base is steadily shrinking.
Talking to reporters in Bikaner, Sharma also took a swipe at Congress leaders, saying they were busy “launching” their sons.
“The Congress’ support base is continuously shrinking. Today, it is left in only a few states and in the future it will be nowhere because Congress leaders are busy launching their sons,” Sharma said.
The chief minister said the mandate in the urban local body elections reflected people’s support for the BJP.
“The hard work of our workers and the trust and affection of the people will continue to be with us in the future as well,” he said.
Sharma also targeted former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, saying he was unable to accept the BJP’s performance in the civic polls.
“He has lost his own ward and is angry with Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra, but is blaming others for the defeat. Gehlot should analyse this crushing defeat,” Sharma said.
Earlier, Sharma attended a programme in Bikaner where he watched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with participants of the ‘Seva Sankalp’ motorcycle rally through video conference.
Sharma also interacted with the motorcycle riders who reached Bikaner and enquired about their experiences.
Addressing a gathering, the chief minister said Modi had devoted his life to public service and the ‘Seva Sankalp Yatra’, inspired by him, would encourage youths towards selfless service, discipline and social responsibility.
“The Seva Sankalp Yatra will connect our youths with selfless service, discipline and social responsibilities,” Sharma said.
He flagged off a ‘Kalash Yatra’ and the motorcycle rally heading from Vadnagar to Varanasi.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sumit Godara, MLAs and other public representatives were present at the programme.
