Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 24 Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai on Thursday alleged widespread corruption in the BJP government, while commenting on a video purportedly showing municipal councillors taking an oath to equally share the corporation’s income among themselves.
“When everyone, from the minister to those above, is involved in corruption, the councillors too said that the share should be equal,” Rai told PTI here.
Rai alleged that from nine-time minister Suresh Khanna to those at the top, including the chief minister and prime minister, everyone in the BJP government was involved in corruption.
He alleged that commissions were being distributed among councillors unevenly, prompting them to demand an equal share. He also claimed that corruption under the BJP government had “ruined” the country.
The video, which surfaced on social media around a month ago, purportedly showed several municipal councillors holding water in their hands and taking an oath. One person could be heard leading the oath, with the others repeating after him.
In the purported video, the councillors say, “I swear that whatever income the municipal corporation earns will be divided equally among the 60 councillors.”
Shahjahanpur BJP metropolitan president Shilpi Gupta said that after the video went viral, notices were issued to around a dozen councillors. They submitted their responses, which were forwarded along with a report to the BJP’s state office.
“Whatever decision is taken will be by the state office,” Gupta said.
