Latur, Sept 24 A group of women from a Scheduled Caste community staged a protest in Latur on Thursday, demanding action against former Maharashtra minister Laxman Dhoble over his alleged derogatory remarks concerning women from the community.
The protest followed alleged remark made by Dhoble during a public rally in Nanded on September 13 in connection with the demand for sub-classification within the Scheduled Caste reservation.
Carrying a banner that described Dhoble’s alleged remarks as objectionable and insulting, the protesters raised slogans and staged a symbolic ‘Jode Maro’ (hitting with footwear) demonstration against the former minister.
The protesters alleged that his comments concerning women and girls from the Mahar community were derogatory and hurt their sentiments.
The protesters demanded that police take immediate action against Dhoble, and said remarks targeting women on the basis of their caste could affect social harmony.
They also submitted a complaint to the Gandhi Chowk police station in the city against Dhoble.
