Mau (UP), Sep 24 An accused in the September 14 murder of a 21-year-old man was arrested following an encounter with police in the Chiraiyakot area here on Thursday, police said.
The accused, identified as Neeraj alias Tiger, carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his arrest, they said.
According to the police, the accused opened fire at a police team during a checking operation near Asalpur culvert early Thursday. In the retaliatory firing, he sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was subsequently arrested and admitted to a hospital.
Eight accused have so far been arrested in connection with the murder of Anees Kumar, who was surrounded by motorcycle-borne assailants near a petrol pump in Sarsena and shot dead, police said.
Neeraj is a known criminal and around 10 cases, including those related to robbery and murder, are registered against him, police said.
A country-made pistol of .315 bore, one live cartridge, one empty cartridge and a motorcycle without a registration plate were recovered from his possession.
