Guwahati, Sep 24 Two persons were killed and two others injured when a car burst into flames after hitting an electric pole on a divider on national highway 127 in Assam’s Nagaon district on Thursday, an official said.
He said the SUV, bearing an Arunachal Pradesh registration number, was coming from Koliabor side towards Guwahati.
“We received information that around 5.20 am the car hit the divider and an electric pole. Under the impact of the collision, the car rolled over to the other lane of the national highway and almost immediately burst into flames,” the official said.
Two of the persons in the vehicle were killed on the spot, while two others sustained injuries.
The injured were taken to the Nagaon Medical College and Hospital.
“Over-speeding by the car is suspected to be the cause. The accident spot is near a curve also, but there are rumble strips on both sides of the curve. The cause of the accident will be ascertained after investigation,” the official added.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, while the two injured are from Bihar.
