Chandigarh, Sep 23 Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday directed concerned officers to initiate the process for recruiting more than 1,000 revenue officials (patwaris).
A decision to this effect was taken by the chief minister during a meeting with a delegation of Revenue Patwar Union here, according to an official release.
Mann said recruitment of more than 1,000 revenue ‘patwaris’ will provide relief to the people and ensure that their routine administrative work does not suffer. The recruitment process will be completed in a transparent manner in the coming days.
Following this assurance, the Union decided to call off its strike, which had begun on Wednesday. Among other demands, the union had been protesting over vacant posts of Patwaris.
The state government has, in principle, accepted the demand of patwaris to restore the Patwari cadre from the state-level to the district-level cadre, said Mann.
This decision will streamline the recruitment process and remove the administrative hurdles being faced across the state regarding seniority and promotions.
The decision has been taken keeping in view the need for administrative reforms and improvement in the functioning of the department, he stated.
Formal approval for restoring the Patwari cadre at the district level will soon be given by the Council of Ministers,” he said.
He said the government is committed to the welfare of its employees.
