Guwahati, Sep 23 Five people suspected to be involved in black marketing of fertilizer have been arrested and over 88,000 kg of different types of manure seized from various ‘chars’ (riverine areas) of Assam’s Nalbari district, officials said on Wednesday.
Nalbari police conducted the raids in coordination with the Agriculture department, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a social media post.
“Acting on secret information, @nalbari_police, in coordination with the Agriculture Department, conducted raids at various char areas under Sialmari PS and seized 1,962 bags of fertiliser weighing 88,290 kg,” it said.
The haul included 906 bags of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate), 1,036 bags of Urea and 20 bags of SSP (Single Super Phosphate).
“Five persons were arrested in connection with suspected unauthorised stocking, diversion and black marketing of fertilizer,” the CMO added, without specifying when the raids were carried out.
