New Delhi, Sep 23 Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls next year, former MP Amir Alam Khan and ex-MLA Nawazish Alam Khan joined the Congress on Wednesday, with the party’s state in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam asserting that the trend of senior leaders joining the Congress is continuing unabated.
Prominent leaders from various political parties, former elected representatives and social activists, including influential Western Uttar Pradesh leader and former MP Amir Alam Khan and former MLA Nawazish Alam Khan, joined the party.
A large number of leaders from the BSP, RLD, AIMIM, and Aam Aadmi Party, including Dr Mohammad Akram, the former chairman of the Indian Medical Council, Uttar Pradesh, and Dr T P Singh, the state president of the AIMIM’s SC Cell, also joined the Congress.
They joined the party in the presence of Gautam, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai and Lok Sabha MP Imran Masood.
“Inspired by the ideology of the Congress, the mission of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, many senior leaders of UP are joining the party today. We welcome all these people to the Indian National Congress,” Gautam said.
The trend of senior leaders joining the Congress is continuing unabated, he said.
“This is not just an electoral battle; it is a battle to save the nation. The Election Commission, which bears the responsibility of conducting fair elections, is where the public’s voting rights are being stolen.
“Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is working for one party by sidelining the other Election Commissioners,” he said.
