New Delhi, Sep 23 Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, 2.1 notches above seasonal average, as the Southwest Monsoon withdrew from the capital, two days ahead of its normal withdrawal date of September 25, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The minimum settled at 24.8 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degree above normal.
The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies throughout Thursday, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to settle around 34 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The relative humidity stood at 58 per cent at 5:30 pm.
The weather office said the Southwest Monsoon withdrew from the entire national capital region, besides most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, on Wednesday.
The IMD said September 25 is considered the normal withdrawal date of the Southwest Monsoon winds from Delhi, based on data for the 1971-2019 period. Last year, the monsoon withdrew from the capital on September 24.
Southwest Monsoon winds arrived over Delhi on July 2 this year, against its normal onset date of June 27, the IMD said.
The air quality was recorded in ‘moderate’ category at 161, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
As per CPCB standards, an AQI of 0-50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’.
