Cooch Behar (WB), Sep 22 West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday said the state would receive huge investments as the entire country was ready to support the BJP government in rebuilding the province, which had suffered “considerable decline” under the previous Left Front and Mamata Banerjee dispensations.
Adhikari claimed several major investors were looking at Bengal and cited his Monday meeting with Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant Ambani at their Mumbai residence as part of his efforts to attract investment to the state.
“There will be huge investments in Bengal. All major investors will be here. The Communists and previous chief minister Mamata (Banerjee) caused massive damage to the state. The entire country is ready to support the BJP government to get Bengal back on its feet. I have got this commitment from everybody,” Adhikari said.
The CM said the state was ready to welcome investments that could create opportunities for young people and contribute to economic growth.
“Our state is ready to welcome visionary investments that empower our youth and drive sustainable economic resurgence,” he said.
About his visit to Mumbai, during which he went to the residence of the Ambanis, the chief minister said he had been invited by Anant Ambani to attend the family’s Ganapati celebrations.
“I got an invitation from Anant Ambani to be part of their Ganapati celebration. I could not go last week. Yesterday, I managed to visit his residence. I performed ‘aarti’ at the temple inside their residence. I also had dinner with Mukesh ji and Anant ji,” he said.
In a post on X, the CM said he had discussed “the immense possibilities for industrial growth and employment generation in West Bengal” with the Ambani family during his visit to their Mumbai residence.
Adhikari also said he offered prayers before Lord Ganesha during the visit and presented the Ambani family a memento of Goddess Kali as a token representing the “soul, spirit and timeless devotion” of West Bengal.
He expressed gratitude to Nita Ambani, Mukesh Ambani and their family for their hospitality.
On whether he had held any specific investment-related discussions with the Ambanis, Adhikari said, “If something happens, you will see. You will have to wait and see. Please be patient.”
Interacting with reporters here, the chief minister said the Adani Group’s 2,000-bed hospital in Kolkata’s New Town will break ground on Thursday with its chairman Gautam Adani expected at the event.
