New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Tuesday reviewed key issues related to water supply, drain waste management and the ongoing rejuvenation of the Yamuna River during a meeting with Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials.
Last month, the Delhi government announced that work had begun on projects worth around Rs 2,990 crore for setting up 28 new decentralised sewage treatment plants (STPs), with work orders already issued.
“LG reviewed important issues including supply of water, management of waste in drains, ongoing works on new Decentralised Sewage Treatment Plants (DSTPs) and other aspects of water and sewage management in the city,” Lok Niwas said in a post on X.
Work orders worth around Rs 1,090 crore have also been issued for upgrading existing STPs. Sewer network work has been completed in 114 unauthorised colonies at a cost of around Rs 2,012 crore, while 1,28,633 households in these areas have been provided household sewer connections.
Sewer network work is currently under way in 276 colonies, while household sewer connections are being provided to around 5,44,680 households in 647 unauthorised colonies.
“In areas that had lacked sewer networks for decades, problems such as waterlogging and dirty water can only be permanently addressed by creating strong infrastructure. The government is working towards this goal in a phased manner,” a government official said.
Sandhu also reviewed the deployment of septage cleaning machines by the DJB to collect waste and transport it to STPs for proper treatment in areas that lack adequate sewerage management infrastructure.
