New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) Delhi has logged 201 dengue cases in September so far — taking the year’s tally to 512 — besides the highest monthly figures for malaria, while no deaths have been reported from either disease this year, according to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) data.
According to MCD’s weekly vector-borne illness report, the figures for this month, till September 19, accounts for more than a third (39.2 per cent) of the total dengue cases this year. With 201 cases, September has logged the highest monthly dengue infection tally this year, in the wake of monsoon and waterlogging in various pockets across the capital.
The civic body’s report states that the city recorded 80 dengue infections over the past week alone.
According to the report, West Delhi has reported the highest number of dengue cases this year, with 63 infections reported, followed by the Central zone with 62 and Shahdara North with 58.
Delhi has also recorded 214 malaria cases in 2026, including 95 in September so far — the highest monthly tally this year. No malaria-related death has been reported.
Malaria figures for this month account for 44.4 per cent of cases recorded in 2026.
The city has also reported 26 chikungunya cases this year, compared with 46 during the corresponding period in 2025. Four cases have been recorded in September so far.
According to civic body data, Delhi had reported 685 dengue cases during the corresponding period in 2025, while 917 cases were logged during the period in 2024.
The corresponding period saw 2,542 dengue cases in 2023, a massive spike from the 396 cases reported during the period in 2022.
Officials said MCD has stepped up mosquito-control measures, with teams inspecting more than 2.90 crore houses for mosquito breeding this year.
Active mosquito larvae were found in 1.62 lakh houses, while more than 1.17 lakh legal notices were issued for conditions conducive to mosquito breeding.
The civic body has also initiated 14,486 prosecutions and collected Rs 21.23 lakh in penalties. Anti-larvae spraying has been carried out in more than 16.99 lakh houses across the capital this year, the report said. PTI VBH ARB
