Chandigarh, Sep 22 Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday held a marathon meeting with MLAs, administrative secretaries and heads of departments to take feedback on public grievances.
The meeting, which lasted nearly six hours, witnessed detailed discussions on complaints submitted by public representatives on the Jan Samvad portal. A point-wise review of public grievances from parliamentary and assembly constituencies was conducted.
Development and Panchayats Minister Krishan Lal Panwar, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana, Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar and Principal Secretary Arun Kumar Gupta were present at the meeting.
Saini gave strict directions to officials to ensure that people do not face inconvenience in getting their grievances resolved, and that issues raised by public representatives should be taken up on priority.
Issues brought to the government by MLAs as the voice of the people should not be met with mere assurances; visible action must be ensured on the ground, Saini said.
The chief minister directed the administrative secretaries to personally monitor the cases concerned and ensure tangible resolutions on the ground.
Reducing the distance between the public and administration is a priority of the government. No citizen should have to repeatedly visit different offices with a legitimate complaint, he said.
“If a problem can be resolved at the district level, it should not be unnecessarily delayed by referring it to higher levels,” Saini said.
At the meeting, the MLAs apprised the chief minister of various issues and requirements related to their respective constituencies. Saini asked the officials concerned to work in coordination with the MLAs and take time-bound action.
“Unnecessary delays in development projects would not be acceptable at any level,” he said. “The departments concerned should regularly monitor and review the progress of works so that the benefits of schemes reach people on time.”
Saini asked the officials to remain active in the field, regularly obtain feedback from public representatives and ensure an effective mechanism to resolve local issues.
He also directed all departments to identify their respective departmental lands and update their records within one month, making it clear that if any government land is found to be under illegal occupation, the department concerned should take necessary action to free it from encroachment, so that it could be utilised effectively.
Good governance does not merely mean framing policies, but also ensuring that the impact of those policies is visible to every person, Saini said. The primary responsibilities of officials are ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach eligible people and removing administrative hurdles.
