New Delhi, Sep 23 The Halal Niyantran Manch on Wednesday announced to hold demonstrations in all the state capitals on September 28-29, along with plans to establish its forums in all states by the year-end, alleging that halal certification is a “conspiracy” to create a “parallel economy” and deprive Hindus and Sikhs of employment in the animal slaughter trade.
Also known as the Halal Control Forum, the Halal Niyantran Manch is a pressure group that campaigns against the mandatory implementation of Halal certification on food and commercial products.
Addressing a press conference at the VHP office here, its spokespersons Harinder Sikka and retired judicial officer Pawan Kumar said the organisation will prepare and distribute literature, organise seminars and public meetings and meet Union ministers, chief ministers and heads of local bodies to seek steps for “halal control”.
Kumar said the group will establish Halal Control Forums in all the states by the end of this year, comprising members from all sections of society.
“On September 28 and 29, large-scale demonstrations will be organised in all state capitals. The youth force will participate in large numbers in these demonstrations,” Kumar said.
The forum said its campaign will focus on Sikh, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, which, it claimed, have been affected by the halal certification system.
Kumar said the forum will contact the leadership of these communities and make them aware of the “attacks on their religious faith” and the employment being taken away from them.
Sikka alleged that halal certification, which was earlier limited to animal meat, has now expanded to medicines, cosmetics, food and beverages and other products.
“The Halal certification is a conspiracy to snatch the employment of Hindus and Sikhs engaged in the animal slaughter trade. It is an attempt to establish Jihadi control over India’s economy. It works to impose Sharia on the country through the back door and provides encouragement and support to anti-national elements,” Sikka claimed.
He also alleged that railway stations, airlines, airports and hotels purchase products only when they are halal-certified, claiming that it is affecting the employment of people from the Hindu and Sikh communities.
Sikka accused the previous Congress governments of facilitating the halal certification system and passing an order issued through the APEDA requiring halal certification for meat exports.
“Congress governments became part of this anti-Hindu and anti-national conspiracy and issued an unconstitutional order authorising four Muslim organisations, including Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, to issue halal certificates, which obtain hefty fees, and get these certificates issued through clerics,” he claimed.
He also praised the Modi government for withdrawing what he described as an “illegal” APEDA order.
“The current government deserves commendation for withdrawing this illegal order by APEDA following our initiative,” Sikka said.
He also alleged that the money collected through halal certification is being used for religious conversion, “love jihad” and supporting terrorists.
“Eighty-eight per cent of the customers are non-Muslims, and a large part of their hard-earned money is going to these organisations,” Kumar claimed.
The Halal Niyantran Manch has been campaigning against halal certification since 2020, with him and Sikka representing the organisation in its campaigns against halal requirements in the meat trade, Kumar told PTI.
