New Delhi, Sep 23 Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has written to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, urging him to implement 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the state and clear the way for pending appointments under it.
In the letter, Gandhi said that during his ‘Chhatron Ki Gunj’ event in Indore on Saturday, numerous students from Madhya Pradesh raised several serious issues concerning education, employment and their future.
A prominent issue highlighted was the stalling of appointments linked to OBC reservation, he said in the letter dated September 22.
“They (students) expressed that they have been facing constant uncertainty about their future due to these long-delayed appointments. Although these young candidates have passed the examinations and completed the entire selection process, 13 per cent of the posts earmarked under the OBC reservation quota have been kept on hold due to the ’87:13′ formula; consequently, the selected candidates have been waiting for their appointments since 2022,” Gandhi said.
All political parties had unanimously supported 27 per cent OBC reservation, yet, the issue remains unresolved, he said.
“Due to this delay, candidates are repeatedly compelled to take to the streets to demand the implementation of OBC reservation and the issuance of their appointment letters,” he said.
Posting his letter on X, Gandhi said, “During the ‘Chhatron ki Goonj’ programme in Indore, students from the OBC category reported that even though the selection process is complete, appointments to 13 per cent of the posts under the 27 per cent OBC reservation have been stalled for years.”
“The students are in great distress… The precious time of these young people, who have been waiting for more than four years, should not be wasted any further,” he said.
“Please hear their plea, implement the 27 per cent OBC reservation that was passed unanimously by all parties, and provide appointments to all the selected candidates,” Gandhi said.
