Indore, Sep 23 The BJP on Wednesday said that Rahul Gandhi tried to outdo comedian Kunal Kamra during the recent ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event here, and said the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha was trying to “manufacture dissent” without presenting any alternative vision.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari termed the September 19 event as “Jhooth Ki Goonj” (echo of lies).
“Has the Congress been able to present any alternative vision on the issue of education so far? On the stage in Indore, Gandhi competed with Kunal Kamra to see who was the better comedian,” he said.
The Congress leader mocked Indian values and elders while engaging in clownish behavior on stage, Bhandari claimed.
“The country’s youth may see Rahul Gandhi as a content creator, comedian, influencer or somebody else, but they never see him as a leader,” the BJP spokesperson added.
The impact of Rahul Gandhi’s event was such that if Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari contested the next assembly election from his hometown of Indore, he would lose his security deposit, Bhandari said.
Asked about reports about differences within the Election Commission, the BJP spokesperson said that the poll body had already clarified its position.
Talking about opposition from traders to the government’s decision to levy a 0.4 percent Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI transactions exceeding Rs 2,000, Bhandari alleged that some people were trying to spread lies. The decision would not impact small shopkeepers, nor would it affect the total volume of UPI transactions, he said.
