Solapur, Sep 23 Amid a row over repeated objections raised by election commissioners to the decision-making process at the poll body, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said representatives from 100 countries had hailed India’s electoral process.
Stressing that the Election Commission is functioning impartially, he said opposition parties are blaming Constitutional entities like the poll body for their defeat at the hustings.
Two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, red-flagged issues relating to deletion of names under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and raised objections to the decision-making process 14 times in the past few months, according to a report in Indian Express.
Reacting to it, the Election Commission asserted that differing views and observations are a normal part of deliberation in any institution and all its orders “are an outcome of the unanimous decisions of the full Commission in the past one year”.
Responding to a query, Fadnavis alleged the opposition parties had raised objections earlier, filed complaints and even approached the court, but they have lost everywhere.
“The Election Commission is functioning impartially. Representatives from 100 countries had visited India to observe the country’s electoral process and had described it as good,” he told reporters.
