New Delhi, Sep 23 A Delhi court on Wednesday sought a response from the city police on an advocate’s plea seeking registration of an FIR against a student-activist and her father for posting “derogatory and filthy posts and videos” on social media platform X.
Chief Judicial Magistrate issued a notice to the Delhi Police, besides seeking an action-taken report on a plea filed by advocate Amita Sachdeva.
“It is submitted that the derogatory posts/ videos made by the accused persons (student-activist Nishu Azad and her father Sanjay Azad) on the social media platform X have sparked widespread public outrage. This is evident from the numerous comments posted by users on the platform, expressing their strong disapproval and condemnation of the accused’s statements,” Sachdeva’s plea said.
It sought registration of an FIR under BNS Sections 196 (promotion of enmity, hatred or disharmony between different groups based on religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste or community), 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) and 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class of citizens by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).
The plea also sought lodging of a case under the Information Technology Act provisions “for making derogatory, filthy and demeaning posts insulting Hindu Deities and Hindu religious beliefs and for promoting communal disharmony”.
It said that Sachdeva “noticed the derogatory, filthy posts/ videos” by the accused at her chamber in the Supreme Court, which was under the jurisdiction of the present court.
