New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for winning a gold medal at the Asian Games and said their exceptional performance, team spirit and determination were a source of great inspiration for the country’s youth.
The Indian women’s cricket team reasserted its continental dominance by clinching a second successive gold medal at the Asian Games, thrashing familiar foes Sri Lanka by 147 runs in a lopsided final at Nisshin in Japan on Tuesday.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side’s gold was India’s first of the ongoing edition and was shaped by a brilliant batting performance that left Sri Lanka chasing a record target of 217.
“My heartiest congratulations to all the members of Team India on winning the Gold Medal in Women’s T20 Cricket at the Asian Games 2026. Your historic victory has secured India its first Gold Medal in this edition of the Games and brought immense pride to the nation,” President Mumru said in a post on X.
