Guwahati, Sep 22 Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said 28 infiltrators were prevented from entering the state from across the India-Bangladesh border.
Sarma, in a social media post, said that in two separate operations, the police prevented 22 infiltrators from entering the state, while six others, who had illegally entered, were held and sent back.
“Our forces remain alert against all anti-national elements who are trying to foment trouble in the state,” the chief minister said in a post on X.
”A warning to all – whether across the border or within, we will hunt down every illegal and ensure appropriate action is taken to secure our state,” he added.
The chief minister, however, did not mention in which sector the infiltration attempts took place.
Assam has an integrated check post in Sribhumi and a land customs station at Mankachar.
Sarma had earlier said that the state government is committed to an infiltration-free Assam.
The BSF has intensified its vigil along the 1885-km India-Bangladesh border in the North East after the disturbances in the neighbouring state.
The Assam Police are also maintaining a high alert along the border to ensure that no person can enter the state illegally and that any person without any valid citizenship documents is pushed back, an official said.
