Chaibasa (Jharkhand), Sep 23 Two teenagers were detained for allegedly abducting three girls, who were safely rescued by police in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, an official said on Wednesday.
Police swung into action after the mother of two of the girls lodged a complaint alleging that two teenagers, aged around 15-16 years, had abducted the three girls, including her two daughters, from Dripshila village under Manoharpur police station on Monday, the official said.
The third girl was the daughter of another villager.
In her complaint, the woman said her two daughters had left home around 7 pm on September 17 to meet their friend, Besra’s daughter, who lived in the neighbourhood, but did not return home.
She and other villagers searched for the girls at several places but could not trace them.
SP Amit Renu took serious note of the incident and formed a special police team headed by Manoharpur police station officer-in-charge Ammiel Ekka to rescue the girls and apprehend the accused.
The police team conducted raids in the Chiria area and rescued all three girls, aged between 13 and 14 years, on Tuesday after detaining the two accused, the officer said.
The motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained as the accused were being interrogated, he said.
“No harm was apparently caused to any of the girls,” the officer added.
