Thane, Sep 23 (PTI) A man suffered severe head injuries after a wooden plank fell on him at an under-construction Metro bridge site in Maharashtra’s Thane district, prompting police to register a case against a private contractor’s storekeeper, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on September 20 near the Kashimira Naka overbridge where Metro work was underway.
The 23-year-old victim was walking near an under-construction pier when a wooden plank slipped through a gap in the elevated bridge structure and struck him on the head. He was immediately admitted to a hospital for treatment, a police official said.
Following an on-site inspection and review of CCTV footage, officials confirmed that the wooden plank had been left unattended on the bridge after use.
Investigators noted significant safety lapses at the site, including unsecured construction materials and the absence of required protective netting, barricades, or warning measures to restrict public access beneath the work area, the police said.
The police registered a case on Monday against the contractor’s storekeeper under Section 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent acts endangering human life and personal safety, they added.
