Gangtok, Sep 23 Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Wednesday called for greater awareness of healthy lifestyles and preventive healthcare, while stressing the need to strengthen Ayurveda through scientific research, innovation and evidence-based practices.

In his message on World Ayurveda Day 2026, Tamang said the theme, “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow”, reflected the relevance of India’s ancient knowledge system in addressing the changing health needs of society.

“Ayurveda is not merely a system of medicine; it represents a holistic approach to life, emphasising balance, prevention, healthy living and harmony between the body, mind and nature,” the chief minister said.

Tamang said Sikkim, with its rich biodiversity, traditional knowledge and close connection with nature, had a special role in promoting wellness and preserving indigenous health traditions.

He stressed the need to promote awareness about healthy lifestyles, preventive healthcare and nutritious food, besides ensuring responsible use of the state’s medicinal plant resources.

At the same time, the chief minister said the future of Ayurveda must be strengthened through scientific research, evidence-based practices, innovation and integration with contemporary healthcare.

He said these priorities were also central to the national Ayurveda Day 2026 campaign and called for collective efforts to build a culture of health, wellness and preventive care.

Tamang also expressed appreciation to the AYUSH Department, Ayurvedic practitioners, researchers, healthcare professionals and others working for the advancement of Ayurveda.

“May Ayurveda continue to guide us towards a healthier, happier, and more harmonious society,” he said.
