Lucknow, Sep 23 Three men drowned while taking a bath in the Sai River in the Mohanlalganj area here, with their bodies retrieved after an overnight operation, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 5 pm on Tuesday when Dheeraj, 25, a resident of Sisendi village, entered deep water and drowned, police said.
Hariprasad, 40, and Pramod, 23, who had accompanied him, entered the river to rescue Dheeraj but were also swept away due to the strong current and depth, police said.
Following the incident, five teams comprising personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), water police and local divers conducted a joint search and rescue operation, they said.
Police officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mohanlalganj) Rakesh Kumar Singh, inspected the spot.
The search continued after sunset with generators and floodlights arranged at the site. Two bodies were recovered late Tuesday night, while the search for the third person continued.
The third body was recovered on Wednesday by the joint teams, police said.
The bodies were identified and sent for postmortem after inquest proceedings were completed in the presence of the victims’ families, police said.
Adequate police personnel have been deployed at the spot, they said.
