Mumbai, Sep 22 The forest and police departments in Maharashtra have joined hands to tackle wildlife crimes, and issued a circular for collaborative efforts, an official said.
With the increasing number of wildlife crimes within the state, this move has been strategically initiated to counter hunting and poaching of wildlife, he said.
“This is a welcome move by our state agencies. With the number of increase in organised wildife crimes including hunting, poaching and trafficking, it has become equally important to counter them in a strategic manner and this move will serve the purpose very well,” said Pawan Sharma, founder-president of RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare) and honorary wildlife warden of Mumbai.
The circular was signed by Director General of Police Sadanand Date and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wild Life) and Chief Wild Life Warden of Maharashtra M Srinivasa Reddy.
