Mumbai, Sept 22 (PTI) A BJP MLA from Mumbai on Tuesday alleged that “rent a (dance) partner” advertisements have surfaced on social media ahead of Navratri celebrations to defame the Hindu festival and requested the city police commissioner to take strict action.
Addressing a news conference, Borivali MLA Sanjay Upadhyay said this advertisement could be a dating app, honey trap, or a ploy to cheat young men and women.
He said the advertisement offers a paid partner for garba dance and has silver, gold and platinum categories.
Upadhyay said there is no compulsion to bring a dance partner for garba- a traditional, devotional folk dance performed in a circle to celebrate the festival of Navratri.
“I have written to the Mumbai Police Commissioner and demanded strict action against those trying to defame the Hindu festival Navratri,” he added.
