Budaun (UP), Sep 23 A man wanted in several cow slaughter cases was arrested after an encounter with police in Budaun district, officials said on Wednesday.
Jumman alias Kamaruddin, a resident of Ramzanpur, who had a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head over cow slaughter cases was arrested following a joint operation by police from Alapur and Qadar Chowk areas late Tuesday night, Senior Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma said.
According to police, Jumman opened fire at the police team during the encounter. In retaliatory firing, he sustained bullet injuries in both legs. Sub-Inspector Qamar Ahmed was also injured in the exchange of fire.
Both the accused and the police officer were admitted to the district hospital for treatment, police said.
A .315-bore country-made pistol, three live cartridges, four spent cartridges, a knife and a rope were recovered from Jumman’s possession, the SSP said.
Police had been looking for the accused for several days in connection with multiple cow slaughter cases. Eight cases, including those related to cow slaughter and under the Gangsters Act, are registered against him, officials said.
