New Delhi, Sep 22 The newly elected office-bearers of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) on Tuesday inaugurated their office at North Campus with a havan-pujan ceremony, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) asserting that the new tenure would focus on student safety and fulfilling electoral promises.
A large number of students and activists from various colleges participated in the inauguration, according to a statement issued by the ABVP.
The ceremony at the DUSU office was held with Vedic rituals and chanting of mantras, the statement said.
ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma said the inauguration through a havan-pujan was a reflection of the organisation’s ideological commitment and its values of “Gyan, Sheel aur Ekta” (knowledge, character and unity).
DUSU president Yash Dabas said ensuring the safety of students, particularly women, across North and South campuses, including Satya Niketan, and conducting comprehensive safety audits would be among the new union’s priorities.
“The decisive mandate given to us by the students of the University of Delhi is a sacred responsibility that we take with the utmost seriousness,” Dabas said.
He urged the university administration to take prompt and concrete steps on student safety and said DUSU was now in “full action mode” to fulfil the promises made during the election campaign.
The inauguration comes days after the DUSU election results, in which the ABVP won three of the four central-panel posts, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen was elected vice-president.
