Naidu Govt converting State land into TDP property
The Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government is facing serious allegations of systematically handing over valuable government lands to Telugu Desam Party offices by rewriting rules, extending lease periods, and bypassing regulations. The YSR Congress Party has accused the government of turning public assets into “party property” while simultaneously targeting and demolishing opposition offices across the state.
YSRCP leaders stated that the government has bent rules solely to benefit TDP, granting prime public land at nominal lease rates and extending lease tenures from 33 years to as much as 99 years — effectively allowing the ruling party to occupy government land for nearly a century.
From “Illegal” then to “Official” now
The controversy has exposed what YSRCP calls Chandrababu Naidu’s political hypocrisy. During the previous YSRCP government, land allocations made to party offices under a Government Order issued during the 2014–19 TDP regime were aggressively attacked by TDP leaders and yellow media. Those allocations were branded as “misuse of public land” and “party palaces.” Now, after returning to power, the same TDP government is using the very same GO to allocate lands to its own offices, but with even more favourable conditions. YSRCP leaders pointed out that while their party offices faced demolition drives, legal harassment, and politically motivated notices after the coalition came to power, TDP offices are now being openly facilitated through Cabinet approvals and amended policies.
Lease rules altered for TDP benefit
Under the original 2016 Government Order issued by the TDP government, political party offices could receive land only on a 33-year lease basis. The coalition government has now reportedly increased that tenure first to 66 years and later up to 99 years. The government also approved these leases at token amounts such as Rs.1,000 per acre annually, despite the lands being worth hundreds of crores in market value. The opposition says the move amounts to legalising a large-scale land grab under the cover of policy amendments.
Prime Govt Lands handed over Across AP
Fresh land allocations have reportedly been approved in Rajamahendravaram, Vizianagaram, Eluru, and Prakasam district for TDP offices. In Rajamahendravaram, two acres of government land were allotted even before municipal and urban authority approvals were completed. In Vizianagaram, land classification records were modified to facilitate allotment. In Eluru, land belonging to AP Agros was reportedly diverted for TDP use, while in Ongole, allocations were made without required urban authority clearances. YSRCP leaders argued that valuable public lands are being systematically diverted to the ruling party while ordinary citizens struggle for housing, welfare benefits, and public infrastructure.
The Long List of TDP Land Allotments
The issue has also revived scrutiny over earlier allotments made to TDP offices during previous regimes.
- In Mangalagiri, the TDP national office was constructed on an encroached canal and assigned lands now worth over Rs.75 crore.
- In Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills, a prime commercial acre was transferred overnight through administrative manoeuvring.
- In Vijayawada, nearly an acre of prime public land was leased for 99 years.
- In Visakhapatnam, TDP expanded its office by encroaching adjacent hill land.
- Similar allotments were highlighted in Guntur, Srikakulam, Kakinada, Bapatla, Machilipatnam, Tirupati, and Kadapa involving government lands worth hundreds of crores.
YSRCP alleged that the pattern clearly shows how the ruling party is consolidating control over public assets district by district.
YSRCP Offices Demolished, TDP Offices Protected
The opposition also accused the coalition government of vendetta politics. Soon after coming to power, the government targeted YSRCP offices across the state. The under-construction YSRCP office in Tadepalli was demolished despite court protection orders. Notices and demolition threats were reportedly issued to party offices in Nellore, Anantapur, Rajamahendravaram, Rayachoti, and Visakhapatnam rural. YSRCP leaders said that while their offices were branded “illegal” despite approvals and lease payments, TDP offices are now receiving government protection, Cabinet backing, and customised policy changes.
Public property turned into Party property
Calling it one of the biggest examples of political double standards, YSRCP accused Chandrababu Naidu of using state power to strengthen party infrastructure with public resources while silencing the opposition through demolitions and intimidation. The party demanded full transparency on all land allotments made to TDP offices, the changes introduced in lease rules, and the role of Cabinet decisions in facilitating what it described as “institutionalised political land grabbing.”
