Kanpur, Sep 21: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said on Sunday that his party is open to an alliance with like-minded parties to prevent the BJP from forming the government in Uttar Pradesh for a third consecutive term.
Owaisi said the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections would be different from previous elections and argued that no single opposition party could stop the BJP on its own.
“We do not want the BJP government to be formed for a third time in Uttar Pradesh. If anyone does not want the BJP to form the government, they can talk to us. We are ready to work with you to stop the BJP from coming to power. But it is important to understand that you cannot stop the BJP alone,” Owaisi said.
He also referred to the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, saying that AIMIM had approached several opposition parties, including the RJD and Congress, seeking an alliance. However, he said those parties did not agree to a seat-sharing arrangement.
“Our party president, Akhtarul Iman, wrote to the RJD, Congress and Communist Party leaders. We asked them to give us six seats, but they did not agree,” Owaisi said.
Owaisi also claimed that AIMIM has strengthened its organisational presence in Uttar Pradesh and is working to improve its electoral performance.
“Our party organisation has become quite strong. Our leadership has emerged at the grassroots level, and our leaders have a strong connection with the people. The party is working hard,” he said.
The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are scheduled to be held next year. The Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, is the principal opposition challenger to the BJP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Congress is also expected to contest the elections in alliance with the SP.
