Debt, deception, diversion and destruction
“Babu Surety… Cheating guaranteed”
Launching a sweeping and aggressive attack on the Andhra Pradesh government after completion of two years in office, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy criticised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for turning governance into a system driven by propaganda, corruption, false narratives, intimidation, and diversion politics. Addressing the media at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, YS Jagan stated that people across the state are struggling even to run their households while the government has abandoned public welfare and transformed Andhra Pradesh into what he described as “Jungle Raj.” He remarked that “Babu Surety – Cheating Guaranty” is being proven true every single day, with every major promise made before elections now lying abandoned.
“Governance Weak… Exploitation Peak”
YS Jagan stated that Chandrababu Naidu has nothing meaningful to show the people after two years in office and therefore survives entirely on media management and diversion politics. According to him, whenever difficult questions arise on governance failures, corruption, or unfulfilled promises, the government creates manufactured controversies and uses its “yellow media ecosystem” to target YSRCP and divert public attention. He asserted that the growing support for the MAVIGAN Capital Corridor proposal has particularly unsettled Chandrababu because it exposes the impracticality and financial burden of Amaravati.
“MAVIGAN exists Today… Amaravati remains a Fantasy”
Calling MAVIGAN the “most practical and financially sustainable capital model,” YS Jagan explained that the corridor stretching between Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur already possesses the core infrastructure required for a functioning capital region. He pointed out that the region already has Machilipatnam Port, Vijayawada International Airport, four national highways, three railway stations, universities, educational institutions, and nine government and private medical colleges, with nearly 35–40 lakh people already living within the urban corridor. “The capital comes into existence on day one itself,” he said, contrasting it with Amaravati, where even after decades Andhra Pradesh may still remain without a fully functional capital despite massive expenditure.
YS Jagan argued that unlike Amaravati, MAVIGAN does not require construction of an entirely new city from scratch and only requires gradual improvement in connectivity and urban integration. Spending even 10 percent of the money proposed for Amaravati , roughly Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 crore over five to seven years , would be sufficient to establish a world-class capital corridor, he asserted.
“Amaravati is becoming an ATM for Corruption”
Launching a detailed attack on Amaravati construction projects, YS Jagan said the government was pushing Andhra Pradesh into a dangerous debt trap in the name of capital development. Government estimates themselves show that basic infrastructure for Amaravati , including roads, drainage, electricity, and water supply , would cost nearly Rs. 2 lakh crore, while loans and commitments linked to the project have already crossed Rs. 47,387 crore. Another Rs. 9,200 crore is now proposed to be spent directly from the state exchequer.
YS Jagan alleged that the same contractors who received projects before 2019 are once again being awarded the same works after cancellation and re-tendering through what he called “tailor-made rigged tenders.” He pointed out that the same five Secretariat buildings, which were awarded in 2018 for Rs. 2,271 crore, are now projected to cost Rs. 10,665 crore even before interior works are included. The cost per square foot, which stood at approximately Rs. 4,350 in 2018, has now escalated to Rs. 20,427 and could eventually cross Rs. 30,000–40,000 after interiors and beautification works are completed.
He further stated that the government has fragmented contracts into multiple packages , structures, drainage, electrical works, lifts, air-conditioning, plumbing, glass facades, and design consultancy , to facilitate massive cost escalation. According to YS Jagan, Rs. 2,540 crore is being spent merely on glass facades and another Rs. 401 crore on designs alone. In addition, contractors are receiving free sand, GST reimbursements, and exemptions under multiple fee categories including seigniorage, MERIT, DMF, and NAC.
The total projected expenditure for the Secretariat, Assembly, and High Court buildings has already crossed Rs. 14,092 crore before interiors are added. YS Jagan questioned how projects in Amaravati could cost several times more than premium buildings in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, or Chennai. He compared Amaravati with Telangana’s Secretariat built under K. Chandrashekar Rao, which was constructed across nearly 10 lakh square feet for around Rs. 615 crore, while Amaravati’s Secretariat towers alone have crossed Rs. 10,665 crore.
Road costs triple… Contracts tailor-made
YS Jagan also questioned road and flyover contracts in Amaravati, pointing out that national highways across India are built at an average cost of around Rs. 24 crore per kilometre according to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while roads in Amaravati are being constructed at Rs. 53 crore per kilometre and a proposed flyover connecting Seed Axis Road is estimated at Rs. 189 crore per kilometre.
“VIPs get prime plots… Farmers get waterlogged lands”
YS Jagan said the government of allotting prime returnable plots in Amaravati to individuals close to Chandrababu Naidu, including Vemuri Radha Krishna, Ashwini Dutt, Balusu Srinivasa Rao, Bezawada Ramesh, and other alleged benamis, while ordinary farmers are being pushed into low-lying, waterlogged, and flood-prone lands. He stated that whenever these issues are exposed, the government resorts to intimidation, abuse, diversion politics, and misuse of institutions.
“Yellow Media, False Narratives and Political Targeting”
YS Jagan said Chandrababu Naidu, Eenadu, ABN, and TV5 of functioning together as a coordinated political-media ecosystem that first manufactures narratives and then uses state machinery to convert those narratives into criminal cases. “They first write the story, then build the case around it,” he remarked, alleging systematic misuse of police machinery against opposition leaders, activists, and social media users.
Referring to the Pedda Dastagiri murder case in Kadapa, YS Jagan stated that Dastagiri’s wife herself publicly clarified before the media that the murder occurred due to a dispute during a village fair and that there were no disputes with former Deputy Mayor Nityananda Reddy. Despite this, he alleged, the government attempted to twist the case to politically target YSRCP leaders and create false propaganda
False Cases, Acid Attacks and Police Misuse
Strongly criticizing the law-and-order situation, YS Jagan stated that Andhra Pradesh has witnessed increasing authoritarianism, fabricated cases, political vendetta, and suppression of democratic voices over the last two years. Referring to the adulterated liquor scandal, he questioned why TDP Tamballapalle in-charge Jayachandra Reddy and his associate Janardhan Rao, whose names surfaced in connection with fake liquor manufacturing and distribution, remain free while former minister Jogi Ramesh was falsely implicated and jailed for 83 days. Even after his release, Jogi Ramesh’s residence was attacked with acid bottles in the presence of police personnel while the said secured immediate station bail.
YS Jagan also condemned the treatment of farmers in Mamillapalli village of Ponnur constituency, where TDP MLA Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar targeted farmers by falsely linking their maize stocks to YSRCP leader Ambati Murali. Despite officials initially confirming that the warehouse belonged to farmers storing maize for better market prices, the same warehouse was later sealed under political pressure. Cases under the SC/ST Atrocities Act were subsequently filed against 14 farmers, including five women from the Kapu community, merely for protesting against the injustice.
“Social Media is the New Democratic Resistance”
Accusing the government of unprecedented censorship, YS Jagan stated that social media platforms are being systematically monitored and controlled to remove content exposing corruption in Amaravati, alleged Heritage-Indapur links, the Tirumala Laddu controversy, women-related allegations against ruling party leaders, liquor and sand mafia operations, and growing ganja networks. According to him, false FIRs are deliberately filed through party workers and police officials directly approaching Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram headquarters demanding removal of content and suspension of accounts critical of the government.
He described social media as the “primary democratic resistance force” that the government is trying to crush because it exposes truths ignored by sections of the mainstream media.
Super Six forgotten… Welfare Collapsed
YS Jagan said the government was completely abandoning welfare governance and betraying every major promise made before elections. He pointed out that the “Super Six,” “Super Seven,” and 143 election promises remain unimplemented. Promised schemes including Aadabidda Nidhi, unemployment allowance, and monthly support for SCs, STs, BCs, and minorities above 50 years of age have not materialized.
Free bus travel for women has been drastically restricted and RTC privatization plans threaten the future of nearly 52,000 RTC employees. Valuable RTC depot lands are being handed over to private interests. More than 6.23 lakh pensions have been removed compared to the period before elections and massive arrears under Fee Reimbursement, Vasathi Deevena, and Aarogyasri are pushing poor students and patients into severe distress.
Government employees continue to suffer due to pending DAs, PRC issues, surrender leave dues, retirement benefits, medical reimbursements, and unpaid allowances amounting to nearly Rs. 35,000 crore.
People asked for Governance…
YS Jagan said the government is increasing petrol and diesel prices despite promising reductions before elections. He stated that artificial shortages were created during the fuel crisis while priority was given to Amaravati contractors. He remarked that while people expected governance, welfare, and accountability, the government delivered only publicity, debt, and diversion politics.
Women are not Child-Producing machines
Criticizing Chandrababu Naidu’s recent remarks encouraging families to have three or four children, YS Jagan questioned how ordinary families could afford food, education, and healthcare when the government itself has abandoned welfare sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and employment. “Women are not child-producing machines,” he remarked, asserting that women’s dignity and empowerment are essential for strong families and society.
We were the Victims of Political Violence
In one of the most emotionally charged, YS Jagan countered repeated allegations on “axe politics,” “gun culture,” and “murder politics,” stating that his own family had become victims of political violence. He recalled the murder of his grandfather Y. S. Raja Reddy during Chandrababu’s tenure ahead of the 1999 elections were protected inside the TDP central office and NTR Trust Bhavan instead of being punished. He also raised questions regarding the suspicious helicopter crash that killed former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy shortly after Chandrababu publicly challenged him in the Assembly. YS Jagan further referred to the murder of Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy and questioned why Dastagiri, who publicly claimed involvement during live television interviews, continues to move freely with police protection.
Whose Politics is built on betrayal?
YS Jagan also referred to the shooting incident involving Nandamuri Balakrishna, the murder of a watchman connected to that case, the killing of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga during a hunger strike, the mysterious death of Mallela Babji after his arrest in the NTR attack case, and the killing of journalist Pingali Dasaratharam after exposing corruption. He said Chandrababu Naidu of betraying N. T. Rama Rao and seizing both the party and its symbol through backstabbing politics.
Both can never be the Same
Concluding the press meet, YS Jagan drew a sharp contrast between YSRCP governance and the current administration. “Betraying parties and stealing symbols through backstabbing is your history. Standing before people, earning their trust, and forming government through public support is our history. Both can never be the same,” he declared. He contrasted YSRCP’s welfare-focused governance, DBT delivery, women’s empowerment, healthcare, education reforms, housing programs, and Disha initiatives with what he described as the current government’s politics of propaganda, debt, corruption, and deception. “Babu means deception. YS Jagan means trust. Both can never be the same,” he concluded.
